7 Things This Book Will Teach You

You’ll learn how to...

  • Identify who your idea is really for
  • Position your idea where it will be most effective: as the answer to an important question your audience is already asking
  • Break your idea into its component parts to improve your, and your audience’s, understanding of it
  • Strengthen each of those parts so they’re strong enough to build on
  • Articulate those individual parts as key concepts that create and differentiate your message
  • Craft a 60-second “minimum viable case” for your idea
  • Summarize your idea in a single, irresistible sentence—your “minimum viable message”

...and much more.

The Red Thread Online Course

The only online self-guided course companion to Find Your Red Thread!

That's right! Now you can design your own core story using the Red Thread—the same process outlined in the book, and the same process Tamsen has used with her one-on-one consulting clients to help them build their core messages and stories.

This course will help you maximize your audience’s understanding of your core story. And, because that story will be based on beliefs they already have, they’re much more likely to believe in it from the beginning. You’ll walk away with your own one-minute manifesto for your idea, a 30-second story that captures why it’s different and defensible, and a one-sentence summary that connects what you do with why people would care. You’ll also build a “primer deck” that will help make your sales and marketing materials even stronger, because your audience will agree with your approach long before they ever have to agree to an investment.

The course includes:
  • A three-phase, 18-module course with materials, examples, videos, and slides from Tamsen to walk you through each part of the Red Thread process.
  • An entirely self-paced on-demand experience you can return to whenever you want.
  • Access to the course through the Kajabi learning platform— all videos, materials, and other resources will be available through the account you will establish when you sign up, and will be available to you for the lifetime of the course.
Who This Course Is For:
  • Leaders building cases for change
  • Marketing, advertising, and sales leaders and writers
  • Non-profit leaders and advancement officers

"Make the invisible visible. We have stories to tell, ideas we would like to share with the world, and make a difference! Find Your Red Thread accomplishes all that for us in forcefully expressive prose. We are consultants and presenters ourselves, who talk around the world, but we have seen nothing as useful and accurate to help us improve our style as Tamsen Webster’s innovative book. It works for us and will work for you."

More about the book...

You have a terrific idea—an amazing product, an incomparable service, a bulletproof business model—and you know it is so powerful that it could change a life, a market, or even the world.

There’s just one problem: others can’t or don’t see its power… yet.

While the prospect of translating a big idea into the language that leads to change can be daunting, that’s exactly what this book will help you do. Even better, the throughline that connects your idea to your audience’s hearts and minds already exists. It’s called your Red Thread, and this book offers you a step-by-step system to find and express the essence of it, to inspire people to act.

Whether you are writing marketing copy, an investor pitch, a keynote speech, a book, or all of the above, the best way to make your idea irresistible is to build the story people will tell themselves about it. Find Your Red Thread shows you how.

If you want to change the world, if you value the possibility of your idea so much that you see it as bigger than you are, if you are willing to put your idea first, but you struggle to communicate how relevant it really is, Find Your Red Thread will give you the practical tools you need to create clear, powerful messages with undeniable impact.

Tamsen Webster

About Tamsen Webster

Tamsen Webster has spent the last twenty years helping experts drive action from their ideas. Part message strategist, part storyteller, part English-to-English translator, her work focuses on how to find and build the stories partners, investors, clients, and customers will tell themselves—and others.

Tamsen honed her expertise through work in and for major companies and organizations like Johnson & Johnson, Harvard Medical School, and Intel, as well as with startups that represent the next wave of innovation in life science, biotech, climate tech, fintech, and pharma. She’s a professional advisor at the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship and a mentor for the Harvard Innovation Labs. She’s also served for over eight years as executive producer and idea strategist for one of the oldest independently organized TED Talk events in the world (TEDxCambridge).

She was a reluctant marathoner... twice, is a champion ballroom dancer (in her mind), and learned everything she knows about messages, people, and change as a Weight Watchers leader. True story.
