So, yep, there wasn’t a post last week: a short week here in the US meant too much to do in too little time. But, good news for you, dear readers — you get a mega #swipefile as a result, which made the task of choosing a single #swipefile article to feature in a “how could you use it?” a little more daunting.
I’m pretty sure I couldn’t decide because there were just so many good options available, both on how our brains work (especially when we’re trying to convince others or ourselves) and a slew of stories that offered great potential analogies.
But, these are three I consider must-reads:
Science explains why you don’t care about your Future Self (and how to get stuff done anyway)
[Because not only do you likely sacrifice your Future Self all the time, so does your audience. Understanding what’s going on—and what to do about it—can make making change easier for everyone.]
The science of product placements – and why some work better than others
[Because it will introduce you to the important concept of “persuasion knowledge,” which is what makes you—and your audience!—defensive when you realize someone is trying to persuade you. Or because you place products in media as part of your job. Either way, this one is super useful.]
Why AI Will Not Create Great Content Any Time Soon
[Not just because it features an excerpt from my husband’s newsletter but also because my friend Christopher Penn’s experiment in AI-generated content carries some BIG lessons for writing your own content.]
What great stories did you add to your Red Thread swipefile this week? I’d love to know!
(If you’re new here, hi! The #Swipefile is my collection of studies, stories, and stuff you can use to bring your messages to life. You can sign up for it here.)
